Making Room for More Schools
New for SY2026–27: School-year funding ceilings help distribute BTG funding across DC schools and students.
We want more DC schools and students to benefit from the Bridge the Gap Fund 💜, but with growing demand and limited funding, Live It Learn It is introducing school-year funding ceilings.
💰 What is a funding ceiling?
The maximum BTG funding a school can receive across all its projects during the school year.
Each school’s ceiling reflects:
Student need: Higher percentages of at-risk students qualify for higher ceilings.
Enrollment: Larger schools qualify for higher ceilings.
For example, a Highest Need school with 420 students has a $15,000 ceiling. If $12,500 is committed, $2,500 remains within that ceiling.
Ceilings are maximums, not guaranteed allocations. Individual project limits still apply. Awards depend on available funding.
🏫 What should educators do?
Keep bringing us your ideas! Coordinate with colleagues and school leadership, since projects share one school-wide ceiling. We may work with school leaders to prioritize requests across grades and student groups.
