Major themes or topics: Frederick Douglass, abolition, freedom, equality, resilience, community, enslavement, the unfinished work of progress

Key content: Students visit the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site to explore the life and legacy of one of the most influential abolitionists in American history. Through Douglass’ home, writings, and speeches, students investigate how his ideas and actions shaped the fight for freedom.

Focus questions: What did freedom mean to Frederick Douglass? How did Douglass’ life and work influence the abolitionist movement and the fight for equality? How can Douglass’ story inspire us to continue the work of promoting freedom and justice in our communities today?
