Spring/Summer 2022

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Dear Friend,

Celebration and appreciation. Those are the two words that come to mind as we close out another year of programming at Live It Learn It. We celebrate teaching in all its forms, our exceptional Fellows, another successful Spring
Soirée, and our phenomenal partner schools and destinations. We appreciate this ongoing work, your unending support, spaces to create and cultivate, and opportunities on the horizon. It is my hope that you are able to celebrate a milestone - big or small - in your life that leads to a deeper appreciation for the world around you.

Despite an ongoing pandemic throughout School Year 21-22, we adapted our programming model to always be as accessible as possible for our partners. We provided 154 experiential learning opportunities to 11 schools, 73 teachers, and over 1500 students this past year. We could not have done this without you and your generosity! Thank you for investing in our students' lives.

Truly, it has been a productive year, and I so appreciate you for walking alongside us during these exciting and also unexpected times. I wish you a safe and restful summer and look forward to connecting again soon. Until then, enjoy our latest issue of The Progress Report featuring many updates within our organization!

Sincerely,

Michelle N. Edwards, Ed.D
Executive Director

Jumping for Joy

Our students aren’t the only ones jumping for joy! We are so grateful for our teachers, students, schools, and partner destinations, and thrilled to have another successful year in the books. And as always, we could not have done it without our LILI friends and supporters thank you!
LILI is Hiring!

We are very excited to announce our brand new Experiential Learning Educator Fellowship, a two-year program designed for those who have a passion for working with students and would like to explore teaching, museum studies, or nonprofit work in general. The ELE Fellowship position provides an excellent opportunity for the right person to gain practical knowledge and skills in arts, history, and environmental science education, while at the same time building relationships with cultural institutions, DCPS, and local nonprofits. This is a salaried position with an outstanding benefits package that also provides extensive training and mentoring. Have questions or know someone who might be interested? All the details can be found here!

Welcome Back!
There’s nothing better than bringing new DC schools into the LILI family, unless it’s welcoming returning schools! We are absolutely delighted to once again be working with J.O. Wilson Elementary and Savoy Elementary in SY22-23!

Soirée All Day
On May 19th, both longtime friends and new supporters came together to make our Spring Soirée a true celebration of our work, our students, and our teachers. Those in attendance experienced a taste of our Painting Our Identity unit and had the opportunity to see our amazing students and educators in action as they lived and learned on the National Mall. We were also delighted to honor Alejandro Diasgranados with our Distinguished Educator award for the incredible work that he does every day with and for his students at Aiton Elementary.

And while May 19th may feel like a distant memory to some of us, you can still watch our event (which takes 45 minutes) or make a donation (which takes seconds)!
