"Why is school relevant?" many students wonder.  Live It Learn It's Pathways to Live It Learn It Pathways to Professions with FedEx's Gina AdamsProfessions initiative is designed to answer this question.  This innovative program seeks to boost students' academic motivation by introducing them to career paths made possible by a good education.  The centerpiece is a visit to a local business, where students meet various employees, learn about their professional responsibilities, and explore the steps necessary to secure these and other stable, rewarding careers.

Live It Learn It's inaugural Pathways to Professions program brought students from Ferebee-Hope Elementary School in Anacostia to visit FedEx Corporation, where they were hosted by Gina F. Adams, Corporate Vice President, FedEx Government Affairs.  While meeting with students in FedEx's conference rooms, Ms. Adams and her colleagues discussed their professional responsibilities and educational backgrounds, and offered words of wisdom as the students begin to ponder their own career goals - and the practical steps to achieve them.  See photographs above and below, and click here to see an announcement of this event.

"My students benefited tremendously from this experience.
It gave them a vision of how they can start preparing for their future... thanks for affording us opportunities that we may never otherwise get!"

--Ms. Hall, 5th Grade Teacher, Ferebee-Hope Elementary School

To prepare students for the office visit, Live It Learn It's pre-trip lesson examines the connection between education and employment, focusing on questions such as how do income and education levels correlate?  And, what educational and employment options do students have?  During the post-trip session, Live It Learn It guides students as they begin to set their own professional goals - and to identify the academic steps necessary to make those dreams come true.
