Maryam Trowell was raised in the suburbs of Washington, DC by two native Washingtonians, and spent many Sundays with her father and brothers visiting museums in the city. After graduating with a B.A. in english literature from Agnes Scott College, Maryam joined Teach For America and returned to her parents' hometown to teach an all-girls classroom at Orr Elementary (now Boone ES). Maryam later earned an M.A. in teaching and spent more than a decade teaching elementary and middle school students in the District before transitioning out of the classroom. She is committed to supporting the impactful learning experiences of both teachers and students, and is overjoyed to be a part of Live It Learn It. Maryam currently lives in Ward 4 with her husband, two daughters, and a cat, and can often be found taking walks along Rock Creek Park to the National Zoo.
